Skive is a tribute to Natalie Davis's work, capturing the essence of her sun-drenched leather design studio, animalistic with hints of freshly brewed tea. Skive consists of carefully chosen oils with aromatic qualities reminiscent of fresh turned earth, old wooden cabinets, sweet tobacco, and dried tea leaves. This natural perfume celebrates both craftsmanship and outdoor adventure.

The Art and Olfaction Awards

"Skive is everything I rave about when speaking of independent perfumery. It is deeply personal and individual visions that translate to a much wider audience. Skive is an artistic vision made glorious reality. It makes me fall in love with perfume all over again." -Colognoisseur

I am the perfumer behind Skive, a scent created in collaboration for Canoe, a leather studio in Austin Texas owned by Natalie Davis. Skive is a finalist in The Art & Olfaction Awards which is holding a ceremony this Friday in Los Angeles. I am excited to be attending, to sniff all the finalist perfumes, and to meet my colleagues. It's a huge honor to make it into the top five finalists in the independent category, but I am mostly thankful that Skive will be with a wider audience. I encourage you, dear reader, to consider buying more scents from such outstanding perfume houses. They are works of art, wearable delicious art. Learn more about The Finalists.

J.Hannah Co. Collaboration with Canoe

After months of secret preparation, Skive is here! This unisex scent was created for Natalie Davis of Canoe in celebration of craftsmanship and outdoor adventure. The scent will debut at Feliz, a design pop up sale on November 2nd at Austin’s Palm Door. Available on the Canoe website on November 2nd.

It all began when Natalie came for a private blending session in my studio and we quickly realized our admiration for each other’s work. Our perfume collaboration was inevitable. We agreed the scent must honor Natalie’s love for leather, tea, and working with her hands. Skive’s resulting formula has aromatic qualities of fresh turned earth, campfires, old wooden cabinets and dried tea leaves. Skive is named after the process of skiving leather – thinning the backside of a piece of leather with a knife.

I chose to focus on animalistic aromas like choya, which smells like campfire, ambrette seed that imparts a musky deep dry down, and castorium that has a dirty leather aroma. The earthy notes were brought forth utilizing saffron and vetiver. Natalie also loves the amber notes of clary sage and labdanum as well as incense notes of frankincense and myrrh. As a perfumer, it’s very easy to get bogged down in these heavier essences but this complex aroma masterfully stays uplifted while deeply sensual.
